All about the Dhaulagiri Circuit Trek.

Dhaulagiri is the seventh highest mountain in the world. The mountain is climbed by many climbers every year. Lying to the north-west of Pokhara, Dhaulagiri is unique for its rise over the local terrain which is up to 7000m above the Kali Gandaki gorge. The trek is considered as one of the most challenging treks as the weather can get quite unpredictable around here. Regardless, this trek offers some of the best views of some 8000 above peaks like Annapurna side by side.

You will be crossing two high mountain passes that is French pass at an elevation of 5,360 metres and Dhampus pass at an elevation of 5,234 meters in this Dhaulagiri circuit trek. The trek is not just about mountain passes and snow clad peaks but you will get to witness the richness in flora and faunas that holds within its jungle, hills, and intact agricultural lands. The people that live in this remote area are an eccentric and plenty to learn from. The lifestyle they have and their unique culture that they have been treasuring since long is something that catches every travelling eye and interest.

The journey begins when you reach Beni, you will start your trekking journey as you pass through villages like Darbang and Muri till you reach to Dhaulagiri Base Camp. . On the route of this circuit trek, you pass through high mountain passes like French pass and Dhampus pass from where you descend down to the Marpha and join the Annapurna Circuit route. This is often an unconventional trekking trip to the climbers given its technical nature but still is worth every ascent. The best time to do this trekking would be around spring and fall time when the weather is tolerable. The best months considered are in between April-May, Sept-Oct.

  1. 01 Arrive in Kathmandu (1,350M/ 4,428Ft)

    On your arrival at Kathmandu, Fishtail Tours representative will pick up you from Tribhuvan International Airport and transfer to the Hotel. Evening walk around the local city and overnight at hotel.

  2. 02 Day for trip preparation & Kathmandu sightseeing

    We process for your restricted area permits and other necessary paper work for the following day. You can utilize this day on Kathmandu Valley Sightseeing which includes Swyambhunath (Monkey Temple), Bouddhanath (Biggest Buddhist Stupa), Pashupatinath (Biggest Hindus & Buddhist Pilgrimage) and Kathmandu Durbar Square (ancient capital of Kathmandu (Kantipur).

  3. 03 Drive to Beni (850M/ 2,788Ft), 8-9 hrs

    You will be heading to Beni by Bus and the scenery along the way is very enjoyable giving you variety. You will spend a night on a camp.

  4. 04 Trek to Babiachor (950M/ 3,116Ft), 5-6 hrs

    The trek then heads towards west along the banks of Myagdi Khola through village of Beni Mangalghat to Singa and Tatopani. Cross the first bridge beyond the village of the south bank then another near the village of Simalchaur, then head north bank to the village of Babichor.

  5. 05 Trek to Dharapani (1,400M/ 4,592Ft), 6-7 hrs

    You pass the village of Shahashradhara then cross the Duk Khola and walk through the fields arriving at Ratorunga. Then you continue towards the village of Dharapani.

  6. 06 Trek to Muri (1,850M/ 6,068Ft), 5-6 hrs

    You are going to leave Phedi and cross the river to its west bank then there will be many switch backs until arriving at the ridge and climbing towards the village of Muri. Trek to Sibang and Matim and descend to Gatti Khola finally arriving at Phalai Gaon. Crossing the Dhara Khola you will climb onto a ridge towards the village of Muri.

  7. 07 Trek to Boghara (2,080M/ 6,823Ft), 6-7 hrs

    Crossing the stream and continuing through terraced fields before a ridge you will descend to Myagdi Khola and trek along the west bank to the village of Naural from where climbing a steep slope you descend towards Boghara. Overnight at Boghara.

  8. 08 Trek to Dobang (2,520M/ 8,266Ft), 5-6 hrs

    You move downwards towards the terraced fields to a small ridge through a forest of Jyardan. You will be passing through some rocky areas which descends then you will climb to Lipshe, and finally towards Lapche Kharka and ends after a climb to Dobang.

  9. 09 Trek to Choriban Khola (3,110M/ 10,201Ft), 5-6 hrs

    Cross the bridge then the trail moves up towards the forested area followed by a downhill trek towards the Myagdi Khola and eastwards towards Chartare. Pass through some forests and you will then cross a stream to Choriban Khola.

  10. 10 Trek to Italian Base Camp (3,660M/ 12,005Ft), 7-8 hrs

    Following a trail towards Chhonbarban Glacier after which you enter the glacier from the right. Walking through these trails you will see some great peaks like the Tukche and Dhaulagiri. Immediately following a short walk you will reach the Italian base camp. Spend the overnight there.

  11. 11 Acclimatization & Rest Day at Italian Base Camp

    This day is set aside for resting and acclimatizing.

  12. 12 Trek to Glacier Camp (4,210M/ 13,809Ft), 6-7 hrs

    The trail passes through the narrow gorge and is also prone to stone fall. You will spend the rest of the day here.

  13. 13 Trek to Dhaulagiri Base Camp (4,740M/ 15,547Ft), 7-8 hrs

    This is going to be an adventurous trek to the Dhaulagiri Base camp from the Glacier camp where you will get to see some amazing views of Dhaulagiri peaks.

  14. 14 Acclimatization & Rest Day at Dhaulagiri Base Camp

    This is yet another day to take a break from the trekking.

  15. 15 Trek to Hidden Valley (5,200M/ 17,056Ft) Via Crossing French Pass (5,360M/ 17,581Ft), 6-7 hrs

    You will climb the two terraced hills, after which you will enter the gentle slope on the left from an ablation valley. A great view that opens up from the French pass will let you see some great mountain ranges. From the French pass you can continue towards the right edge of the hidden valley to Thapa Pass then at last to the camp.

  16. 16 Trek to Yak Kharka (3,680M/ 12,071Ft) Via Crossing Dhampus Pass (5,200M/ 17,056Ft), 6-7 hrs

    From Hidden valley to Dhampus pass and continue to Yak Kharka.

  17. 17 Trek to Jomsom (2,710M/ 8,889Ft), 5-6 hrs

    Trekking to the village of Marpha, on the west bank of the Kali Gandaki River. Fro0m there head to Jomsom.

  18. 18 Flight to Pokhara (850 M/ 2,788 Ft), 25 mins

    A twenty five minute flight from Jomsom to Pokhara will let you through the scenery of some beautiful mountain ranges. You will reach to Pokhara and spend the overnight there. Overnight at Pokhara.

  19. 19 Drive to Kathmandu (1,300 M/ 4,428 Ft), 7-8 hrs

    A seven eight hour drive from Pokhara will take you to Kathmandu where you will spend rest of the day or evening either strolling around the various sites or simply relaxing at your hotel. Overnight at Kathmandu.

  20. 20 inal departure

    After having breakfast at hotel, we process for farewell bid. Then our company representative will drop you at Airport for your onward journey.

Hotels & Camping

There are good hotels at Kathmandu & Pokhara with good services but trekking accommodation will be fully organized trek (camping accommodation) and you are going to stay inside the tent. Trekking cook and other supporting staffs will make fresh meals for you and even you can give your hands to them if you like.
