All about the Jiri Everest Base Camp Trek.

You will start with an 8 hour journey drive towards Jiri and then following the traditional route which is taken by the early Everest expeditions and serving the road less Sagarmatha region as the main connection. The relatively tiny region of Solukhumbu with around 8000 people is considered as one of the best ethnic groups of all the other groups in Nepal. Despite being a popular route for trekking this is not traveled as often as it should be traveled. Jiri Everest Base camp’s trekking route is simply considered one of the best trekking routes as it offers great hospitality displayed by the Sherpa people who migrated there from the Tibetan regions hundreds of years ago.

Trekking in from Jiri will help you acclimatize better which is an advantage for the whole trekking trip. This trek is considered about 190km/120miles long and the total altitude gained on the countless uphill fraction totals around 9000m which is even much higher even than Mt. Everest! This route from Jiri to EBC and Kala Patthar is considered as one of the most renowned trails as it was climbed by the pioneers of the mountain climbing; Tenzing Norgay and Sir Edmund Hilary in the Everest expedition. The trip begins after a scenic drive from Kathmandu to Jiri passing through lower regions of Everest region. Trekkers will be able to experience traditional and cultural aspects of the local people in the region, while the trails will take you through several ethnic village groups besides the Sherpa groups including Tamang, Jirel, Rai, Brahmin, Chhetri communities. The locals of the region have changed their homes to tea house lodges offering accommodation facilities to the travelers and trekkers on a trip.

  1. 01 Arrive in Kathmandu (1,350M/ 4,428Ft)

    Upon your arrival in Kathmandu, our Fishtail representative and driver will meet you at the Tribhuban International Airport and escort you to your designated hotel. The representative will help you to check into your hotel. In the hotel, you will be briefed about your daily activities during the trek. Overnight stay at hotel. Overnight at hotel.

  2. 02 Drive to Jiri (1905M/ 6,249Ft), 7-8 hrs

    This day is a full bus public ride up to the Sun Koshi river valley of the town of Jiri which is 187 KMs away from Kathmandu. You will spend an overnight here. Overnight at teahouse.

  3. 03 Trek to Bhandar (2,200M/ 7,216Ft), 5-6 hrs

    You begin the walk by climbing to the top ridge at an altitude of 2400m following a trail drop to Shivalaya and then you make yet another climb to the Sangbadanda, Kosaribas and finally to Bhanjyang and Bhandar at 3,090 meters. Overnight at teahouse.

  4. 04 Trek to Sete (2,645M/ 8,676Ft), 5-6 hrs

    The trail dropping to Likhu Khloa crossing the river at 1,580 meters onto Kenja. You will make a long climb till the Lamjura Hill. After the first steep climb, the second part is when you cross towards Sete which is an abandoned stupa at 2,575 meters. Overnight at teahouse.

  5. 05 Trek to Junbensi (2,675M/ 8,774Ft), 6-7 hrs

    The trek first will begin with a gradual climb to Lamjura pass at 3530 meters. This pass is the highest between Jiri and Namche Bazar, from where you can descend towards the Tragdobuk then finally to Sherpa Village of Junbesi. Overnight at teahouse.

  6. 06 Trek to Nunthala (2,440M/ 8,004Ft), 5-6 hrs

    Climb on a ridge at an altitude of around 3080m. From Junbesi the trail then leads to Phalpu and towards a small market at Salleri. You will then leave Salung and finally descend towards Ringmo Khola at 2650m followed by a small climb to Ringmo. From there looking through some apple orchards you will get to Trakshindo pass dropping down pass the monastery on to Nuntala. Overnight at teahouse.

  7. 07 Trek to Kharikhola (2,020M/ 6,626Ft), 5-6 hrs

    The trail descends to Dudh Koshi and then climbs onward through several Sherpa villages and finally to Kharikhola. Overnight at teahouse.

  8. 08 Trek to Puiyan (2,700M/ 8,856Ft), 6-7 hrs

    A little climb, passing some Sherpa villages through a narrow canyon you will arrive at Puiyan. Overnight at teahouse.

  9. 09 Trek to Phakding (2,646M/ 8,679Ft), 5-6 hrs

    You continue the climb from Puiyan towards the ridge and following yet another ascent to the final ridge then down towards Phakding. Overnight at teahouse.

  10. 10 Trek to Namche (3,446M/ 11,300Ft), 5-6 hrs

    Walk through a Pine forest following the trail north up the valley of Benkar. You will then cross the Dudh Koshi River and go on passing the Chumoa to Monjo the entrance of the Everest National Park. You pass Jorsale village and walk alongside Dudh Koshi and Bhote koshi rivers and steep ascents will bring you to Namche Bazar. Overnight at teahouse.

  11. 11 Rest & acclimatize day at Namche

    You will spend a day in Namche Bazaar in order to acclimatize. You will then trek a short distance to a museum that exhibits the traditional customs of the Sherpa people. Hike up to Syangboche Airport. From this point, you can see rewarding views of the Himalayas including Mt Everest. Overnight at teahouse.

  12. 12 Trek to Phorste Thanga (3,680M/ 12,071Ft), 5-6 hrs

    Your trail climbs steeply out of valley through rhododendron forest. The trail passes through Yak Kharkas and summer settlements. The mesmerizing views of Khumbi La and Taboche are seen. Overnight at teahouse.

  13. 13 Trek to Machherma (4,470M/ 14,662Ft), 5-6 hrs

    First you will climb a ridge giving you some excellent views both down the valley to Kengtega and up towards Cho Oyu and then descend to a river, climbing steep to the deadly moraine of the Ngozumpa glacier. You will finally reach Machherma by early noon. Overnight at teahouse.

  14. 14 Trek to Gokyo (4,790M/ 15,7112Ft), 5-6 hrs

    This trek takes you towards one of your main destinations, Gokyo at 4,790 m. You will then make this camp your foundation for 2 nights as we will have sightseeing and hiking trip around Gokyo. Overnight at teahouse.

  15. 15 Trek to Gokyo Ri (5,483M/ 17,985Ft) & Gokyo, 5-6 hrs

    Beginning with a steep climb to the top of Gokyo Ri in the morning, you will get stunning views of the super Gokyo valley, the massive Ngozumpa glacier and an incredible panoramic view of the whole Khumbu Himalayas, including the giants; Everest, Lhotse, Nuptse, Makalu, Cho-Oyu and Gychung Kang. Overnight at teahouse.

  16. 16 Trek to Thangna (4,500M/ 14,760Ft), 4-5 hrs

    First trek to the foot of Cho La pass. Accommodation in Thangna, you will spend an overnight in the camp. Overnight at teahouse.

  17. 17 Cross Cho La Pass (5,300M/ 17,384Ft) & trek to Dzongla (4,710M/ 15,449Ft), 7-8 hrs

    Start an early walk to reach the Cho La Pass at an altitude of 5300m. The weather conditions out here could be a little challenging. Climb steeply until reaching the top finally descending to Dzongla. Overnight at teahouse.

  18. 18 Trek to Lobuche (4,910M/ 16,105Ft), 4-5 hrs

    After an easy and short trek you will reach Lobuche after 4-5 hrs. Overnight at teahouse.

  19. 19 Trek to Everest Base Camp (5,365M/ 17,597Ft) & Gorak Shep (5,180M/ 16,991Ft), 7-8 hrs

    After an easier trek this is going to be comparatively difficult day walking along the Khumbu Glacier and up to Everest Base Camp at 5,365 m. The view of the Khumbu Icefall from Base Camp is spectacular. You then return back to Gorak Shep for the night. Overnight at teahouse.

  20. 20 Trek to Kalapathar & Pheriche (4,252M/ 13,950Ft), 6-7 hrs

    You will walk from Gorakshep to Kalapathhar. After a gradual walk, you will take another uphill climb for ½ hour that brings you to Kalapatthar, 5,288m. After an hour descent, you go back to Gorakshep and then all the way back to Pheriche for the night. Overnight at teahouse.

  21. 21 Trek to Tengboche (3,890M/ 12,759Ft), 5-6 hrs

    You will retrace your way back to Tashinga. Overnight at teahouse.

  22. 22 Trek to Monjo (2,835M/ 9,300Ft), 5-6 hrs

    You will walk on an easy high trail before Namche and finally heading to Monjo. Overnight at teahouse.

  23. 23 Trek to Lukla (2,804M/ 9,197Ft), 5-6 hrs

    This is the last day of trekking as you return to Lukla where the trek began. This day is particularly meant for relaxing and enjoying the last day of trek journey. Overnight at teahouse.

  24. 24 Flight to Kathmandu (1,350M/ 4,428Ft), 45 mins

    Bid goodbye to the beautiful mountains as you are going to be enjoying the last glimpse of the mountains through the 35 minutes scenic flight to Kathmandu. On arrival in Kathmandu, you can either stroll around or rest at your hotel. Overnight at hotel.

  25. 25 Final departure

    Today after breakfast you will directly transfer to the international airport for onward journey with sweet memories. Breakfast at the Hotel.

There are good hotels at Kathmandu with good services but trekking accommodation are normal teahouse where meals and accommodation are provided.
