All about the Langtang Helambu Trek.

Langtang region lies to the north of Kathmandu valley and borders Tibet. It is home to many Tamang communities that rely on the timber and firewood found in the region for livelihood. Langtang is filled with spectacular views with Ganesh Himal on the west, within a range of 6000-7000m and Gosaikunda and Helambu to the south that combined with Langtang makes trekking trips last from 7 to 21 days. Langtang region was designated Nepal’s first Himalayan national park in 1971.

The Sherpa and Tamang communities residing in the particular region have a culture more oriented towards Tibetan culture. Their clothes and lifestyle is much closer to those of Tibet as Langtang region is closer to the borders of Tibet. The people also speak languages similar to Tibetan language. The journey towards Langtang valley thereby ensures exploration of the culture and civilization of the communities residing in the region.

Travelling to the region is convenient to a limit. Most of the trekking routes in Helambu and Langtang are well served with teahouses making independent trekking quite possible. But there are no such facilities in the Ganesh Himal area or Ganja La area from where the trip gets a little difficult. A journey to the Langtang valley offers an opportunity to explore the Tamang villages, climb small peaks and to visit glaciers at a more comfortable altitude than other trekking regions.

It is less crowded due to few visitors and is more peaceful towards the journey in comparison to other routes. Due to availability of many trekking trails like Helambu trek, Gosaikunda trek, Langtang region is setting up its image as one of the most promising trekking trails to the adventure seekers and trekkers interested in the wilderness. It also provides travelers with a chance to appreciate the flora and fauna along the way of the trekking trip.
