Makalu Base Camp offers the most remarkable and diverse habitat with rich Flora and Fauna, the lush vegetations, the mountains and home to a wide variety of plants and animals makes it a place worth seeing. Along with all that, the best part is the people of this region who are warm and welcoming. Situated in the lower reaches of Barun and Arun valleys are some communities of Rai, Sherpa, and Shingsawa (Bhotia) farmers. They are economically poor and are some of the isolated communities yet they preserve their cultural heritages with due respect.

This trek takes you to Makalu Base Camp 5250 m, which is now called as Makalu Barun National Park and Conservation Area. The trek starts with a flight to Tumlingtar and heads up the Aurn River valley to Sedua and Num, then crossing Shipton La Pass (4210 m) into the upper Barun river valley for a close look at Makalu and Chamlang Himal. This trek visits one of the most remote and isolated areas of Nepal. The Barun valley is a part of a huge international protected area under the agreement between the governments of Nepal and China, which comprises of 2330 sq. km of National Park and 830 sq. km of conservation area in Nepal alone.
