The people climb through the north face and north east edge through the standard route ascended by the climbers. The expedition considered to be one of the most difficult expeditions can also be climbed by south East Ridge from the west pillar route. Makalu nevertheless is considered to be among the toughest mountains to climb. Over the years many mountaineers have climbed it through the south East Ridge and many Sherpas climbed it in the 1950s but they all were Indian nationals, it was until 1978 when Ang Chepal Sherap who officially became the first Nepali to make an ascent. Despite that it falls among the comparatively less attempted mountain of Nepal. Because of the level of difficulty and the need of good experience this expedition has been one of the less climbed mountains.
